Valtteri's Milestones
1989
Valtteri Viktor Bottas was born in Nastola, Finland, to Rauno and Marianne in August 1989. His first motor racing experience came in a go-kart in 1995, aged six.
1995
Over the next decade, the Finn was successful in numerous junior karting series. In 2006, he claimed the ICA and Formula A Finnish Championships, as well as the WSK Formula A International series.
2007
After completing compulsory Military Service in his native Finland (where he attained the military rank of Lance Corporal!) Valtteri moved into single seaters in 2007.
In 2008, he won both the Formula Renault Eurocup and Formula Renault Northern European Cup with ART Grand Prix, recording 17 wins, 20 pole positions, and 22 podiums across the two championships.

2009
Two seasons in the F3 Euroseries followed, with Valtteri recording two wins, three poles, and 14 podiums. He finished both seasons P3 in the standings.
In 2010, he became the first driver ever to win the Masters of F3 race at Zandvoort twice, having also won the event in 2009.

2011
The success kept coming. Valtteri claimed the GP3 Series at the first attempt thanks to four wins and three further podiums.
At the end of the year – having already held the position of Test Driver for two seasons - he was promoted to the role of Reserve Driver with Williams in F1.

2013
Valtteri landed a full-time race seat with Williams at the start of 2013. In 2014, the first of F1’s new hybrid era, he scored six podiums and finished P4 in the final Drivers’ standings.
2017
Valtteri joined our team in Brackley for the start of 2017, and secured his maiden F1 win at the Russian Grand Prix in Sochi.
Two further wins, four poles, and 13 podiums in W08 meant Valtteri helped the team secure a fourth straight World Constructors’ Title.

2021
Valtteri raced four further seasons for the Silver Arrows between 2018 and 2021 and was an integral part of our sustained success.
When he departed the team after the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix he had won a Constructors’ Championship in every season with our team. In total, the Finn amassed 10 wins and 56 podiums, as well as taking 20 pole positions.
He finished runner-up to team-mate Lewis Hamilton in the standings on two occasions (2019 and 2020).

Valtteri moved to Alfa Romeo for the start of 2022, and spent three seasons with the team that would rebrand as Stake F1 Team Kick Sauber for 2024.
He achieved a best result of P5 with the Swiss-based team at the 2022 Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix.
