Kimi's Helmets
The helmet is a crucial safety feature for a Formula One driver. But it’s also an important way to express themselves in the design and colours they choose – making them stand out from the rest of the grid and be instantly recognisable to the fans. Scroll through some of Kimi's most iconic designs to see how his style has evolved through his years with Mercedes.
No driver ever forgets their first F1 helmet, and Kimi’s was a strong nod to his homeland of Italy, where he first took part in an FP1 session. The design mirrored that of his junior days, clearly displaying the green, white, and red of the Tricolour.
Kimi’s first full season in F1 again saw the colours of Italy proudly displayed in the cockpit whenever he drove past. A stunning debut in Australia was backed up with an impressive opening few races. By season end, Kimi had claimed 150 points and three podiums.
A helmet that made history. Kimi’s roots-inspired Miami design saw him become the youngest polesitter of any kind in 75 years of F1 racing.
A helmet fit for a home Grand Prix. Kimi’s look for Imola only served to emphasise his nationality even more. Born in nearby Bologna, it was a fitting tribute to Kimi’s racing story as F1 visited Imola for the first time since Kimi joined the grid.
From Kimi’s home race to the team’s home race. Kimi’s Silverstone look paid tribute to the new all-electric Mercedes-AMG CONCEPT GT XX, in turn a throwback to the Mercedes C 111. For one weekend only, there was a hint of orange to the Silver Arrows.
