Pushing for progress to make our cars and technology more sustainable.

F1 demands the most from every material, every fuel and every component. That pressure drives innovative solutions, many of which bring benefits far beyond motorsport.

  • We put more sustainable components on our race car

    • In 2025, we raced our first ever bio-based carbon fibre composite material on a technically performant part of the W16. The component raced over 7,000 km across multiple circuits and conditions. Carbon fibre composites are used at scale across aerospace, aviation and construction, so the significance of this breakthrough extends well beyond our sport.

  • We’ve helped bring a new era of fuel to F1

    • From 2026, every car on the grid runs on Advanced Sustainable Fuel – which must meet exacting criteria. Mercedes-AMG High Performance Powertrains developed our fuel with our Title and Technical Partner PETRONAS, while working symbiotically on the design of the new power unit. Their work has direct relevance to the efficiency and sustainability of road vehicles and freight fleets worldwide.

  • We’re raising the bar across our supply chain

    • Our supply chain presents our largest opportunity to reduce our emissions. In 2025, we launched a new Supplier Code of Conduct and formalised a target to reduce Supply Chain and Downstream emissions by 26% by 2030. Also in 2025, for the first time, Supply Chain emissions fell year-on-year, down 12% from 2024.

What's next?

We’ll keep pushing the boundaries of what sustainable performance looks like on track:

  • Aiming to integrate more bio-attributed materials onto the W17 car in 2026

  • Increasing supplier engagement in line with our 26% reduction target for Supply Chain and Downstream Emissions

  • Collaborating with our Partners to keep delivering sustainable innovation, at speed
