This weekend’s Austrian Grand Prix is set to bake under a fierce European heatwave. Forecasts suggest ambient temperatures could exceed 33C across the weekend, while track temps may soar above 50C under clear Styrian skies. The FIA has designated the event a Heat Hazard, opening the door for teams to use driver cooling systems as they prepare for the race.
Heat is nothing new at Spielberg. The 2025 race weekend was also characterised by baking sunshine, with temperatures climbing to 31C with a light breeze.
The circuit's location in the Styrian Alps means weather can change rapidly, but this year sustained heat will be a factor throughout. Europe is enduring an intense early summer heatwave, with Austria among the countries affected by unusually high temperatures. Minimal cloud cover and light winds are expected to leave drivers, mechanics and fans exposed throughout the weekend.
Here’s the weekend’s weather watch:
Friday: Sunshine and clear skies will set the tone for the weekend, with temperatures as high as 33C for FP1 and FP2.
Saturday: The heat will grow stronger still for FP3 and Qualifying with highs of 34C.
Sunday: The high temperatures will remain on race day, but an outside chance of rain could emerge as the Grand Prix approaches.
