Formula 1 returns to Bahrain this weekend, except this time we’re racing!

One local fan ready for another dose of F1 action this year is Haya, who is ready to don her Mercedes merch for the second time in three months and cheer on the Silver Arrows at the first night race of 2025.

As a very talented pianist, Haya has an extra appreciation for the hard work and training that the drivers do to make sure they’re the best of the best, as well as their incredible multi-tasking skills when behind the wheel.

She’ll be hoping hitting all the right notes will be the key to Sakhir success for the team.

Haya has lots of experience at the Bahrain International Circuit (BIC), having first visited at the age of 10. This season, she will be switching up her usual seats to cheer the team on along the main straight.

Below is Haya’s take on why the Bahrain Grand Prix is the best on the calendar.

‘Leave All Your Stress Behind’

Although the Bahrain Grand Prix is our first night race of the season, the temperatures around the track are not be underestimated! Located in the deserts of Sakhir, it’s important to dress appropriately and bring a water bottle for the free refills around the circuit.

“Put on your most comfortable shoes and light clothes,” Haya recommends.

“All snacks and beverages are available, and you can refill your water bottles for free! BIC provides ample lounging areas for people to chill and relax and enjoy the vibes.

“Just bring your excitement and positive energy and leave behind all your stresses.”

On the subject of clothing, Haya has also got creative with her fits for the weekend and even made some of her own merch to support her favourite driver, Kimi Antonelli.

“I picked my own designs and got them printed onto some shirts to create my own Kimi merch, which I will be wearing for the Bahrain Grand Prix this year!”

Bahrain Goes ‘All Out’ For F1

“Us Bahrainis are known for being super hospitable and friendly, and islanders love people visiting from all over the world,” explains Haya.

“Bahrain really goes all out with the activities and the entertainment for Formula 1, and I enjoy meeting people who share my love and enthusiasm for motorsports.

“The Bahrain Grand Prix certainly has an electric vibe to it,” she adds.

“There are so many activities that are held at the circuit, and people love the concerts by famous singers and DJs.

“At the end of every race, the fireworks light up the night sky, dazzling the spectators, and then people enjoy the outdoor concerts and grab a dinner from the many delicious food outlets available at the location.

“Bahrain hosts F1 activities all around the island such as the fan village in the capital Manama, where they host thrilling activities and non-stop entertainment for F1 fans to enjoy on the week leading up to the Bahrain Grand Prix.”

Sakhir Sunsets Are a Sight to Behold

“I usually watch the Bahrain Grand Prix from the University Grandstand, as it allows you to see the full view of the race from Turn 1, where all the action starts,” Haya says.

“But this year I’m trying a new spot: the Main Grandstand!

“I’m very excited to watch the race start as the teams and drivers gather up in front of us to prepare for the final countdown! I feel like it would be a great experience to watch them get ready up close for the race start.”

With sessions going from day to night across the weekend, Haya and her family also get to see the sun go down in Sakhir.

“Bahrain’s sunsets during F1 races are a sight to behold,” says Haya.

Showing Her Support for Kimi

Haya first spotted Kimi’s talents in Formula 2 and has been cheering him on ever since.

“I’m a HUGE fan of Kimi,” she says.

“I was stunned by his incredible driving skills and strategies used in F2, especially his performance in the rain! He’s always been good at racing in the rain as he has mentioned that he enjoys it very much.

“But what truly grabbed my attention was his strong character. He manages to stay calm during all racing conditions, minimising errors from nerves or the pressure of being the youngest rookie on the grid.

“Off track, he seems one of the sweetest and funniest people there is! He is so relatable and down to earth, despite the fact that he has accomplished so much at such a young age.”

‘Everything is Awesome’

As well as seeing cars on-track over the race weekend or pre-season testing, Haya also loves the opportunity to get up close and personal with the cars and – occasionally - the drivers.

“Everything in BIC is awesome, but my favourite experience is always when I see the lights go out, and of course the pit lane walk!

“I absolutely love watching the teams as they work on the cars and practice pitstops to ensure that everything is settled and prepared.

“I got to see Bono and have a photo with him, and George Russell waved from afar too.”
